William P. Mahedy, Jr. devoted his life to veterans. After serving as an Army chaplain in Vietnam, he worked with veterans from every war from the Spanish American War through to the present conflicts. He co-founded in 1979 the National Veterans Outreach Program, which enabled the establishment of over three hundred Vet Centers in all fifty States, Washington, DC, and US protectorates. He later co-founded the Veterans Village of San Diego, which has served as a model for many programs across the country. His book Out of the Night has helped countless veterans suffering from the unseen wounds of war. Bill passed away in 2011.
